Press Release - MID ULSTER OBSERVER — 12 December 2002
‘JACK’S BACK IN LAVEY!’
After a three year slumber, The Lavey Arts and Drama Society, under the umbrella of the Termoneeny Community Group, are now putting the final touches to their present production — “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The story involves a hungry heifer, a jittery Jack, a bad auld devil of a Witch, a gangly Giant, three dodgy thugs and a beautiful Princess.
When Jack sells his cow to a cattle dealer at Swatragh Market for next to nothing — only a bag of beans — nobody is surprised……. However the beans grow into a big stalk and Jack puts his stalk to good use, but the Giant gets a raw deal in the end.
Aided by a rollicking script, a driving musical score and a whinging old hag of a mother, the cast leave no stones unturned in their attempt to grab the Giants jewels and find a lover for the Princess. This is a truly parish occasion with singers, musicians, actors and special guests hailing from every townland and beyond. Described in the entertainments section of The Lavey Hound as being “A riveting, rocking, rolling, dunghill of a yarn,” the story suits all age groups, offering many laughs and frights along the way.
Produced by Gerry Lynch, Colm O’Kane and Donal Magill, Jack and the Beanstalk is being staged in Mayogall Hall, Lavey on Friday 20th Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd December. Matinees commence at 3pm, evening performances at 8pm. Admission to evening shows is strictly by ticket only.
